This following selection has been extracted from a joint work of J. Gresham Machen and James Oscar Boyd entitled “A Brief Bible History: A Survey of the Old and New Testaments” (The Westminster Press, Philadelphia, 1931). Boyd contributed the sections devoted to the Old Testament, while Machen was given the responsibility of covering the New Testament. This edition only represents the first nine of Machen’s 23 chapters. It is in the public domain and may be freely copied and distributed. The above title was created for this edition. The actual title of Machen’s section appears as follows: “The Life of Christ and the Development of the Church in New Testament Times.”
